We use gold-standard, research-backed methodologies recommended by psychologists to deliver targeted support for students with diagnosed learning difficulties and for students who need intervention before seeing a psychologist for an assessment.
Structured synthetic phonics
Using high quality programs like Sounds-Write and UFLI, we help students break down reading and spelling into clear, manageable steps. As a reader and speller, students need 3 skills (segmenting, blending and phoneme manipulation). Sounds-Write and UFLI provide these tools for readers and spellers.
Phonemic awareness and word study
We build foundation skills using Heggerty - Phonemic Awareness and strengthen students' spelling accuracy, vocabulary and language structure skills using Word Origins (3 – 6) spelling and word study program.
Talk for Reading and Writing
Multi-sensory oral and written language strategies that assist students with expressing their ideas clearly and comprehending complex texts. Talk for Writing supports the development of sentence and grammatical skills, with a focus on functional application of grammar in context, through explicit scaffolds selected to meet specific instructional needs of students. Talk for Reading approach deepens the student's understanding of the world, fosters the habit of reading and thinking deeply, allowing readers to participate in the explicit teaching of vocabulary and knowledge across all subjects, recognising that a rich curriculum enhances comprehension.
Specialist mathematics intervention
Targeted visual and hands-on strategies designed specifically for students struggling with Dyscalculia and foundational math concepts. We use several resources such as: Number Sense Interventions, Paul Swan's resources, Delta Maths, Pirate Maths for Worded Problems, Assistive Technology (Boddle), etc. Lessons are planned based on observations, assessment and data. Our priority is building strong skills and strategies, and applying them both in the classroom and in everyday life.
Since Margherita came into our lives about twelve months ago, Mason has come a long way. He currently meets with her three times a week and during the school holidays he works with her five days a week for an hour. She has been a wonderful asset and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in him since he started working with her.
